The Aboriginal Sport Recreation and Physical Activity Partners Council would like to share information about two seperate grant opportunities. Please follow the links provided for more information.

ParticipACTION Teen Challenge Grant

BCRPA is the BC`s Provincial Delivery Partner of ParticipACTION Teen Challenge – a national initiative, sponsored by Coca-Cola Canada in collaboration with ParticipACTION, to support and encourage physical activity in Canadians aged 13-19.

The program allows organizations to register as Community Host Organizations (CHO), to host Teen Challenges and Events in communities across Canada. CHOs will be able to apply for grant funding to support their youth group activities and events.

CHOs would be eligible for funding of up to $250 to support a one-time event and up to $500 to support an ongoing program, or challenge (at least 30 minutes, once a week, for 4 weeks or longer) where youth (13-19 yrs) are engaged in physical activity. Funds can be used to support facility use, transportation costs, nutrition, coaching or equipment.

Programs and Events that ParticipACTION Teen Challenge has funded in the past include try-it-for-free day, highschool and youth sports teams, youth sports tournaments, a surfing club, teen girls`drop-in centre, youth fitness centres, weekend camps, and the list goes on.

Our upcoming grant application deadlines are February 15 and March 15 to accommodate community planning for Youth Week in May, and Move for Health Day on May 10. Multiple funding applications from CHOs are welcome if they have multiple programs.

For a LIMITED TIME ONLY, CHOs are also welcome to apply for funding of up to $1000 for programs that demonstrate a greater community reach or impact.

To apply, visit http://www.participaction.com/programs-events/programs/teen-challenge/ and click on the “Apply Now” button to begin the application process.

The funding application can only be accessed through the “Create Your Own Challenge” link once you register as a Community Host Organization on the website. Be sure to select that funding is required on the second question in the challenge form to automatically receive access to the funding application.

Communities looking to develop youth engagement strategies are encouraged to apply to a Columbia Basin Trust pilot program called Community Youth Engagement Funds.
Local governments, registered non-profit organizations, school districts and First Nations organizations can apply for up to $15,000.
“During our consultations for CBT’s Youth Strategic Plan, communities told us they wanted to engage with youth in their communities more effectively,” said Sabrina Curtis, Director, Sector Initiatives. “Youth themselves also expressed a desire to be better informed on programs and services designed for them. This program will help by providing funds to develop a relevant and effective youth engagement strategy.”
Funding is available to community groups or organizations who have demonstrated that:
• there is appropriate support both from local government and youth-serving organizations;
• a diverse group representing broad community perspectives is engaged, ready to participate and committed to helping implement the strategies developed; and
• youth will be meaningfully consulted and part of the process of helping to develop the strategy or plan.

The deadline for applications is Friday March 8, 2013 at 1:30pm. Find out more online here.
