Victoria, BC (December 23, 2013) – The Aboriginal Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity Partners Council (Partners Council) is pleased to announce the launch of a design competition for a new logo that will represent Team BC at the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG). The logo design competition is open to all Aboriginal artists in British Columbia and the artist with the winning design will receive a $5,000 prize.
The contest opens December 23, 2013 and closes on January 24, 2014. The competition will be adjudicated by a panel consisting of representatives from the Partners Council’s Regional Leads.
The North American Indigenous Games is an international multi-sport event involving Indigenous athletes from across Canada and the USA. The next NAIG will be held in Regina, Saskatchewan from July 20-27, 2014 and is for youth athletes aged 13-18 years. The NAIG help Indigenous youth athletes realize the full potential of their body, mind, and spirit. They embody the hopes and dreams of a new generation – the Spirit Strong, Brave and True.
The Team BC program for 2014 NAIG is inclusive to athletes and coaches of Aboriginal ancestry (First Nations, Inuit, and Métis) and will consist of approximately 500 participants competing in one of 13 sports. The Games will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the approximately 5,000 Indigenous athletes, coaches, and cultural performers, as they participate in a unique international celebration of sport excellence, cultural unity and pride.
Team BC is seeking a new logo to reflect its participation in the NAIG and the diverse and inclusive cultural heritage of the Aboriginal sport community in BC.
