The RBC Aboriginal Youth Leadership Scholarship is open to all Aboriginal youth (First Nations, Metis and Inuit) aged 14 – 18 yrs. Priority will be given to youth who are actively playing a leadership role within their community.

The RBC Aboriginal Youth Leadership Scholarship is designed to offer Aboriginal youth a unique opportunity to participate in Outward Bound Canada’s National Youth Leadership Scholarship Program. This scholarship provides Aboriginal youth with the chance to join other young leaders from different cultural backgrounds and lived experiences on an extended wilderness-based leadership expedition; to learn more about themselves and each other; and to further develop their leadership capacity.

This scholarship gives participants the opportunity to connect first-hand with some of Canada’s most amazing wilderness areas, interact with other motivated youth and discover their own strengths, abilities and passions. Outward Bound offers wilderness courses in BC, New Brunswick, Alberta and Ontario, providing the chance to explore the diversity of Vancouver Island, the ruggedness of the East Coast, the spectacular Rocky Mountains and the remote wilderness of the Canadian Shield.

Outward Bound believes it is through the challenges and rewards of a wilderness expedition that youth can develop greater resilience, compassion and self-reliance.

The RBC Foundation is the lead funder in Outward Bound Canada’s innovative leadership and educational programs for Aboriginal youth. RBC Foundation’s generosity has made it possible for over 300 young people to develop leadership skills, improve self-confidence, build resiliency and develop personal connections with their peers and with the natural world, so that they may grow to become contributing and caring leaders within their communities.

This scholarship is intended for youth aged 14 – 18 years who have demonstrated leadership within their own community and are interested and invested in participating in an Outward Bound wilderness experience. This opportunity is best suited to those who enjoy being outdoors and are motivated to fully participate in this experience.

Attached to this email is an application package for the RCB Aboriginal Youth Leadership Scholarship that you may print up and post or distribute to youth that you feel may be interested and ready for such an experience.

I have also attached a Fundraising Tool Kit which will help to provide students with fundraising ideas to help supplement their course fees. The more funds that are raised by students will mean that more students will have the opportunity to participate in Outward Bound’s inspiring programs.
