MNBC Art Contest

Surrey, BC – Métis Youth British Columbia (MYBC) has extended its deadline for the Kishchee tey mo’yawn aen li Michif wi’yawn (Proud to be Metis) Métis Youth Art Contest.  This Contest highlights the amazing artistic talents of our Youth.  The Métis Youth Art Contest was designed to engage Métis Youth within the Province of BC by asking them to create an artistic or written piece which highlights why they are Proud to be Métis!

The contest is open to all Metis Youth who reside within the Province of BC and are between the ages of 15 and 30. The Métis Youth Art Contest will run from July 4th, 2016 to October 31st, 2016 and all submissions must be sent in via-email accompanied by a completed application.  We encourage all Métis Youth to participate in this exciting contest and to be as creative and expressive as possible when artistically answering the question “WHY ARE YOU PROUD TO BE MÉTIS?”  Submissions can include anything from videos, to pictures or collages, paintings, carvings, poetry or written pieces.

All submissions received will fall in to one of three categories – Media | Art | Writing – and will be evaluated by the Ministry of Youth staff in the first round. The Top 3 submissions from each category will then move to an online fan vote. The Top 3 winners selected through the vote will receive prizes: First place will receive an I-Pad Mini and a MYBC prize pack, Second place will receive a $100 Visa gift card and MYBC prize pack, and Third place will receive a $50 Visa gift card and MYBC prize pack. Winners will be announced and notified by November 14th, 2016.

Welcome to Team BC!

Partners Council seeking volunteer coaches and managers for Team BC for Toronto 2017 North American Indigenous Games 

Victoria, BC – The Partners Council is seeking committed and enthusiastic sport leaders to serve in a number of vacant volunteer coach and manager positions on Team BC in various sports for the
2017 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG).  The 2017 NAIG will be held in Toronto, Ontario from July 16 to 23, 2017.

The Partners Council is the recognized Aboriginal Sport body that oversees the operations of Team BC for the NAIG. Team BC is led and managed by the Team BC Chef de Mission and Mission Staff, whose main responsibility will be to oversee all aspects of team operations and logistics. BC’s contingent will include approximately 500 athletes and coaches participating in 13 sports.

About the NAIG
The NAIG is an international multi-sport event, involving North American Indigenous athletes from 13 provinces and territories Canada and 13 regions in the United States staged intermittently since 1990. The Games bring together approximately 5,000 athletes and coaches and cultural performers.

About Team BC
The Partners Council is responsible for managing the Team BC Program for the NAIG. Through the support and oversight of a Team BC Work Group and Provincial Sport Committees, the Partners Council established a coordinated Team BC program that includes the development of a comprehensive process to select the 500 Aboriginal athletes, coaches, managers, chaperones and mission staff to represent British Columbia at the NAIG. The Partners Council series of 2016/17 BC Aboriginal Championships & Camps will serve as the primary talent identification and athlete selection events.
