Métis Youth Employment & Training Strategies Events – Deadline October 28, 2016

September 28, 2016

To Whom It May Concern,

Attention: Call for “Métis Youth Group Employment Training Strategies” Letters of Interest

Métis Nation British Columbia has successfully secured funding under the Urban Partnerships Program, administered by the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres, to support a new program called Métis Youth Group Employment Training Strategies (MYGETS). The MYGETS events will take place across the province until March 31, 2017 and support the economic participation of Métis Youth in BC.

MNBC is seeking Letters of Interest from our MNBC Métis Chartered Communities and Métis Youth serving organizations to host culturally relevant employment events for youth between the ages of 15 and 30. The MYGETS events will provide Métis youth with opportunities to cultivate important skills that are valued in the workforce. In particular, these events will:

– Offer programs that support Métis youth in reducing barriers to their participation in the economy through employment and training events.

– Offer cultural programming for the preservation and revitalization of strong Métis identities.

– Provide projects that enable Métis youth to realize their leadership skill and potential.

– Provide the community the opportunity to celebrate the accomplishment of Métis Youth.

If your community is interested in participating in MYGETS, please complete and submit the Letter of Interest template no later than October 28th, 2016 by 4:30pm PST.

Submit your Métis Chartered Community Letters of Interest electronically to Director of Youth, Colette Trudeau, at

Salmon Arm Metis Association

This year, at the Salmon Arm 119th annual Fall Fair Parade, a great time was had by all.  The Salmon Arm Métis Association parade float placed 2nd in our category.  Our float held our Red River Cart, canoe (paddler – Gladys Duncan), live fiddle music (Frank Kolotylo), and the Métis Youth Jiggers (Caliandrea and River Wright, Tarwynne and Whelan Sept-Cooper).  This would not have been able to be accomplished without the support of SAMA and community members, who supplied the truck, donated the signs, handed out candy, and finally assembled and dismantled the float.  SAMA’s goal is first next year
