Exciting Training Opportunity

Good morning,

Every great idea needs leadership to drive it

“Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself.  When you become a Leader, success is all about growing others”              Former CEO of General Electric, Jack Welch

$100 million in funding was awarded through the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism, and Skills Training during the Fall of 2015. It was be used to help increase labor market participation of British Columbian’s by preparing people for the work force. In partnership with the Lakes Division bands, the University of Victoria was awarded resources to deliver a highly successful and sought after Entrepreneurship Training program which is available to all Aboriginals residing in the broader region. These programs are:

  • Lakes Division Aboriginal Canadian Entrepreneurs™ (LD-ACE™) (16 2-day workshops (accredited course) taught by UVIC Instructors plus numerous supports such as coaching, mentorship, and a free laptop
  • Lakes Division Empowering Aboriginal Generation of Leaders & Entrepreneurs™ (LD-EAGLE™)(One three-day stand-alone workshop designed to help folks know if Entrepreneurship is for them. An excellent tool box of resources and is often a launch point into the larger program (ACE)

The timing of this could not be better! Opportunities for community, regional, and provincial involvement with Industry through joint venture and partnerships seem to be springing up everywhere! Never before has the need for champions and leadership been so high.  Every great idea needs leadership to drive it! We have these folks in our communities.  They may not all be in plain sight but they are here. And they have ideas. Ideas that need nurturing and developing  Ideas that could change the face of not only their lives, but also those of their families and their communities. This training opportunity could be a tool those in Leadership use to help identify and develop capacity in our communities in a significant and meaningful way

Please take a look at the following links for more information about other ACE/EAGLE programs that have been successfully held in the province to better understand the impact that this training can have on our communities.

  • The EAGLE workshops for this region are being held this month. I have already had to cancel the workshop planned for Sept 14 to 16 due to lack of registration. There are three more time slots set in place, and it would be a shame to have to cancel them as well.
  • The ACE program deadline is October 2 (launches on Oct 11). There are 18 seats to fill. In the past this has been no issue and I have turned people away. But it always gets a bit nerve racking this close to the deadline dates!

For both programs, I depend on the help from contacts, Band administration and organization in the Health, Social Development, Education, Employment, Economic Development, and key leadership in all of these departments/organizations to help spread the word. I thank you for your part in that and urge you to continue to educate people on these upcoming programs. Deadlines are fast approaching. In order for these programs to be successful be need to get the right people in the seats. Please help me find them ☺

Any questions please feel free to contact me directly.
