Aboriginal BEST in Penticton

Hi everyone! I wanted to take a moment to tell you about an exciting program being offered in Penticton next month.  I am part of a company that has been awarded a contract to deliver a provincially funded program called Aboriginal BEST (Business and Entrepreneurship Skills Training).  Aboriginal BEST workshop sessions are designed to help participants identify viable business ideas and determine their feasibility. Participants will learn everything from what an entrepreneur is to how to conduct market research, write a business plan, explore financing options, and so much more.

The Aboriginal BEST program has been awarded to Velocity Training Inc. in Penticton for the Okanagan area. Please see for a complete description of the program.  It is funded through the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation and the Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation. This is the 9th consecutive year the program is being offered to the people of BC. There are several locations offering the program throughout the province and Penticton has been chosen as a location this year.

I am not sure if you are familiar with the program but it is an awesome opportunity for community members to bring forward their business ideas and work through them with the help of our trainer, Shawn Bonnough, who will be delivering the program. Not only does Shawn facilitate the contents of the BEST program but he brings years of teaching and training from all over the world and experience as an adjunct professor at Royal Roads University in the B.Com program there. I am also part of the program delivery offering training as well as one-on-one coaching to our participants.

The Aboriginal BEST program is open to all self-identified aboriginal (First Nations, Metis, Inuit) peoples and is completely FREE.  It is for every age group (youth through to elderly). It is for those who might have a business idea but also for those who know they would love to own their own business but don’t know yet what they would like to do…. they are also invited to take part in the program. Many participants have started the Aboriginal BEST program not having a business idea but want to explore the options of being self-employed.

We are offering an information session which is open to everyone to attend to find out more about the program and answer questions. We encourage all community members to come out and join us, both potential program participants and organizations who may be able to help promote this fantastic opportunity.

  • Saturday September 1st – 10am at the Penticton Community Center
  • Snacks and Drinks will be provided at both information sessions and is free to attend.

Wouldn`t it be great if the Metis women of this region could take advantage of this opportunity to develop their ideas around starting their own businesses..?!!!

Please feel free to call or email for further information!
